The world is will and representation. The will is the “in-itself” of things. It is the force. The energy of all things. The will is motive force of life and death. What we perceive is the manifestation of the will is “idea” or “representation.”
It will always be an individual perception. The pain of the will is avoided in this way, it is behind a veil so to speak. All persons avoid the pain but gradually the will overwhelms the individual. And, in this, one sees that not only is one good but one is evil. For one to see the fullness of this phenomenon one becomes aware suffering and non-suffering are lived out in the individual. And, eventually, he sees he must find himself redeemed. Or in a certain sense must see himself as part of the will and be resigned in it.
