If you are from Minnesota you get to know a good many Finnish people. They live on the Iron Range, Duluth and Minneapolis and in small towns and suburbs all across Minnesota.
I knew a beautiful Finnish girl in high school — Marlys S. She was a wonderful person, and only child. It was always a joy to be with her. I imagine her today as the strong, beautiful, determined person she was in 1961.
One of the reasons why Finnish people are so interesting and so much a part of the fabric of Minnesota has to do with the valiant efforts the Fins made at the start and during WW II. Here’ s a story about that: http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2013/05/finland-in-world-war-ii/100519/.
